Terms of Service

By using this website, you agree to the terms below. They are written in plain language because the tool is small, free, and unlikely to ever involve a courtroom — but the words still matter.

1. What this service is

This website provides a free, browser-based video converter powered by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. All conversion runs locally inside your browser. We do not host your files, do not process them on our servers, and do not see their contents at any point. Surrounding the converter, the site publishes educational articles about video formats, codecs, and FFmpeg usage.

2. The service is free and provided as-is

You do not pay to use this tool, and there is no premium tier. Because the tool is free and provided without warranty, you accept that it is offered as-is and as-available. We make no guarantees that it will work for your specific file, that conversions will be perfect, that the site will be reachable at all times, or that every browser will support the WebAssembly features required. If a conversion fails or produces unexpected output, the remedy is to try different settings or use a different tool.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use this site to:

  • Convert or process content you do not have the legal right to handle, including copyrighted material you do not own or have not licensed.
  • Process material that is unlawful in your jurisdiction, including but not limited to child sexual abuse material, content created to harass identifiable individuals, or content produced through criminal means.
  • Attempt to overload, probe, or attack the site, its hosting infrastructure, or any third-party service it relies on.
  • Reverse-engineer or repackage this site as a competing service in a way that violates the licenses of its underlying components (FFmpeg, FFmpeg.wasm, and others — see their respective licenses).
  • Use the site in any way that would expose us, our hosting provider, or other users to legal risk.

Because conversion happens entirely in your browser, we have no technical means to inspect or moderate what you process. The responsibility for what you put through the tool is yours alone.

4. Your content

You retain every right you already had to the files you process. We claim no ownership, no license, and no derivative interest in your videos. Because we never receive your files, there is nothing for you to delete from our systems — they were never there.

5. Third-party components

This site builds on substantial third-party work, including FFmpeg (LGPL/GPL), the FFmpeg.wasm project (MIT), Next.js, Vercel hosting, Plausible Analytics, and — when active — Google AdSense. Their respective licenses and terms apply to their components. Nothing in this document overrides those.

6. No warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, availability, and non-infringement. The tool may produce output that differs from what you expected. It may fail on unusual files. It may be unavailable due to upstream outages outside our control. None of this entitles you to any remedy beyond discontinuing use.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the site — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for any direct damages arising from your use of the site is capped at the greater of the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months (which is zero) or USD $50.

8. Advertising and links to third-party sites

The site may display advertisements served by third-party networks and may contain links to external sites. We do not endorse the products advertised and are not responsible for the content or practices of any third-party site. Your interactions with advertisers or external sites are between you and them.

9. Changes to the service and to these terms

We may add, change, or remove features at any time, including taking the site offline permanently. We may also update these terms; when we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. If you disagree with a change, stop using the site.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of {LAW_JURISDICTION_PLACEHOLDER}, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by good-faith email correspondence will be brought in the competent courts of that jurisdiction.

11. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. The unenforceable provision will be interpreted to come as close to the original intent as the law allows.

12. Contact
